Could computer screens replace fitting room mirrors?
If the thought of trying on clothes in a sweaty, cramped fitting room is almost enough to put you off going shopping, then you’ll be pleased to hear that technology is about to come to your rescue. A British firm called C-InStore has developed a supersize computer screen called Magic Mirror that enables you to try on a number of outfits in various colours and styles, without having to get undressed. It can be operated by a gesture or touch, and is linked to a number of cameras that sit in front, above and to the sides of the shopper. These cameras send images to a PC, which can then identify the size and gender of the customer and matches body image with items of clothing that the customer has chosen after scrolling through a range of options. Alternatively, shoppers can pick an item off the rail and a chip in the clothing tells the computer what style, size and colour it is.
