Could Clearwire Be Acquired by Sprint?
Clearwire Corporation (CLWR, Free Analysis), a provider of mobile broadband networks that provide high-speed internet access, may be a target for Sprint in a move to pursue a single network, according to Oppenheimer. The analyst believes that Sprint would have to pay $12 to $14 per share for Clearwire, but believes the premium would be offset by synergies and tax benefits. Recently, Sprint’s launch of the Evo 4G has led many analysts to project that the company will be able to increase its subscriber base by the end of the year. The phone will be the first to operate on a 4G network, thanks to its partnership with Clearwire, who operates the network. If the phone is successful, the move to acquire Clearwater would be more likely to materialize, say analysts.
