Could Charlies charity cycle inspire new mountain bike purchase?
Category: Bikes The charitable efforts of a young cyclist could inspire other children to take up bike riding. Seven-year-old Charlie Simpson from London has boosted the coffers of Unicef’s Haiti relief fund to the tune of 100,000 after completing an eight km ride of his local park in Fulham. He used the JustGiving website to collect donations from the public, explaining he wanted to buy food, tents and water for those affected in the disaster. His dad Dan Simpson told BBC News that Charlie had enjoyed the “incredible response” from people touched by this story. The proud father remarked: “Charlie is so grateful to people for sponsoring him and he is delighted his bike ride has meant Unicef can help so many children in Haiti.” Hundreds of thousands of Haitians have been left homeless or trapped under the rubble after the natural disaster earlier this month. A charity concert took place over the weekend which saw rock band Radiohead raise funds for the relief effort.
