Yes, and they have been combined where possible. As routes get larger and busses travel further, students are on busses longer. The district tries to keep travel time to a minimum. Markesan receives transportation aid from the state based on the previous year’s transportation expenses (which includes the non-public student costs). The transportation expenditures are paid out of fund 10 for regular ed students and fund 27 for special education students. Can we charge our students/families participation fees? Yes. However, education will remain free. Charging fees for co-curricular and extra-curricular programs can discriminate and limit participation.
