Could be it be Lights, Cameras, Action…” for the Isle of Cumbrae?
Whether Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow will be rushing to the bright lights of Millport or not, Cumbrae development manager Jane Cook believes the world could be Cumbrae’s oyster! Ms Cook has spotted an opportunity to promote Millport on a special listings for potential locations for films and tv drama. She explained: “I want to put the Isle of Cumbrae on the list of Scottish locations for filming at Scottish Screen. By getting Cumbrae listed, it means that TV or film producers anywhere around the world who are looking for a seaside island location with an old fashioned feel could approach us, and it could have economic spin-offs. From Treasure Island to Pirates of the Carribbean, it could capture a director’s imagination – you just never know.” Ms Cook also explained that one of the other positives concerning the island was its close proximity to Glasgow Airport for good transport links in terms of providing a ready location which is ‘cost effective’.
