You can tell a lot by the hole they leave,mice/rats are pretty neat, not much soil disturbance.Squirrels are messier, they dig/scrape with their front paws.Badgers don’t dig so much as root,a lot messier.Foxes (my guess) do a combination root, snout,if you are finding a smallish, snout shaped hole, nosed into the soft earth, then it’s a fox. There’s a good chance you’ll find scat somewhere around too if I’m right, look a lot like what a small to medium dog’s leave behind. And of course they are nocturnal for the most part so you won’t see them.Same thing’s happening to me,but as I’m digging out the bulbs they’re actually helping me.
