Could anyone tell me the names of some English folk music groups or musicians please?

English folk music as in folk music currently played in England is a very wide ranging genre. There are groups and musicians deliberately focussing on “English” traditions but many more who pull in music from all over the British Isles and beyond. The wide-ranging performers include Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span (now defunct), Kate Rusby, Uiscedwr et al who also write their own material in a “folk” style. You will find more traditional English material in the work of Martin Carthy and the Watersons, John Kirkpatrick and (for the North East) Kathryn Tickell and Bob Fox. Singers like Frankie Armstrong or Sandra Kerr do a fair bit of English material. Good bet is to go along to one or two folk festivals in your area and see what you like the sound of.
