Could anyone tell me about spinal cord stimulation surgery?
Hi Teresa, Spinal cord stimulator implantation has certainly come a long way! I assist with these surgeries often. They are done as an out-patient procedure. You are given wonderful drugs to drift off to sleep while we are preparing to insert the lead. Once we start with the positioning of the lead to find the ideal coverage for you; you are more awake and can talk to us to tell us when you have the best feelings. After finding all of the coverage areas; you can, once again, snooze on! The group that I work with is a huge anesthesiology practice; about 150 doctors and ten of those specialize in Pain Management/Medicine. I have had back surgery once, about ten years ago and I feel great knowing that if I ever do have problems again, I know exactly who to see! Good luck to you; let me know how you’re doing.
