Could anybody tell me if SALIX trees ( Harlequin / Japanese) are winter hardy?

Salix is the latin name for willow .The variety maybe japanese but as they have cold winters there I would think they would be winter hardy in the UK.As they are in pots I would try to keep them in a fairly sheltered spot because if temperatures drop considerably the root ball might freeze and if for a long time the effects are the same as drought. They would however be fairly dormant through the winter so this might help them to survive. They are deciduous so expect them to lose their leaves for the winter.
