For most men, proposing is one of the most nerve-racking moments of their lives – one they would like to get over with as quickly as they can. From choosing engagement rings to finding perfect locations, the lead-up can be terrifying. But hopeless romantic Andrew Nellis conquered his nerves to spin out his proposal to a week-long series of extravagant gestures designed to sweep girlfriend Jodie Mellor, 23, off her feet. After six months of careful planning Andrew blew a whopping £13,000 on – among other things – a gondola ride in Venice and a helicopter flight. Andrew, 24, from Doncaster, believes that the day you get engaged should be even more special than a wedding day. He says: “I love seeing Jodie’s eyes light up when I surprise her. At a wedding all your family are there and it’s a bit of a get-together. When you get engaged, it’s just the two of you.
