Copyediting, proofreading, content editing—what’s the dif?

Copyediting and proofreading are like siamese twins … but with different color hair. Proofreading is the most basic of editing and generally only reviews for typos and obvious misspellings. However, YWE also reviews for broken or confused links. Copyediting does that plus catches your goofs in the more refined areas of capitalization, punctuation, use of abbreviations and more. Content editing on the other hand, is another sibling altogether, looking for arrangement of content, obvious ambiguities, and gently suggesting more polished phrasing, etc.
