We live IN the world, and we interact with the physical world through our physical bodies. But our body has its own set of desires, its own set of principals. For instance, the body really doesn’t care how or where it receives pleasure, so the body may desire inappropriate sexual contact. We must be in control of what we allow our bodies to experience. Eating is good, overeating is bad. Sex within the bounds of marriage is good, outside of marriage it is bad. Anything can be either good or bad, so we must be in control, as guided by God’s Holy Spirit. That is to say, we have the body that communicates with the physical world; we have our spirit that communicates with the spiritual world, and we have our soul, which has makes the final decisions of which side you will listen to.
