Compared to other programs, what’s distinctive about math at IWU?
In recent years, IWU math classes have never been above 30 students. In upper level courses for math majors, a class size of 10-15 is more typical. Computer software is integrated into many of the courses, and we continue to equip our own math laboratory to add data collection activities to courses such as Mathematical Modeling and Applied Statistics. Our math majors develop strong friendships among themselves (our math club plans more social activities than it does mathematical ones) and with faculty. All math faculty have an “open-door” policy for office hours – our students decide how much interaction they will have with faculty.
