Comment of the Week: Do Harsh Criticism & Mockery Accomplish Anything?
#spacer{clear:left}#abc #sidebar{margin-top:1.5em}zSB(3,3)It’s common to hear from religious apologists that atheists are making a grave error in using harsh words, harsh criticism, satire, and even mocking in their critiques of religion. Supposedly, people who adopt the mission of advancing the cause of their religion can be trusted to have the best interests of atheism and atheists at heart. One flaw in this argument from religious apologists is the absence of data to support it. They can’t point to any evidence that harsh criticism from atheists is causing problems for atheists. They can’t point to similar movements in the past alienating people and failing because their criticism of the majority was too harsh. I realize that empirical evidence isn’t in the usual toolbox for a religious apologist, but it is something which they should anticipate atheists asking for.
