Coming from Cranbrook, BC, how did you get started in Vancouver, and how did things progress from there?
After living in Kelowna for a while, I moved back to Cranbrook and started the shop [Boarder’s Choice] because I was over workin’ for “The Man.” I’d come out to Vancouver to buy product for the shop, and that’s how I met people in the industry. From there, I got hooked up by a local board company called Forest skateboards. I’d come into Van to skate with those guys, and I met Moses Itkonen, who hooked me up with Red Dragon. He helped me get on Platinum and took me to the Tampa Am contest in ‘99, where I placed 2nd. From there I just knew I could make it in this industry, so I sold my shop (which is still up and running in Cranbrook) that same year and pushed a career. It’s definitely the best move I made.
