College advice Cal Poly Pomona vs Chico?
I live near Chico, and my older brother a freshman at the college and my dad teaches there. Chico does have a party school reputation and there have been a couple fraternity/hazing incidents in the past few years. But for the most part, the party rep’s a holdover from years ago. (Though most Chico State students I know have thriving social lives, if you understand what you mean.) One of the things I like best about Chico is downtown; it has the feel of a college town. Lots of cool little stores and places to eat, and there are farmer markets (which are a lot of fun and great for people watching) in the spring and fall on Thursday nights and Saturday mornings. As far as culture goes, there are several theatre groups in the area who put on performances and quite a few art exhibits. It’s a pretty artsy town. There are also lots of (pretty decent) local bands who put on shows. The music scene is really pretty good. Shoppingwise, Chico isn’t great (no idea if that’s important to you or not.
