Code 83: What does the code 83 mean in the Medicaid Restricted Recipient / Restriction Type field?
Local social service districts are required to use the Welfare Reform Code 83 in the Medicaid Restricted Recipient / Restriction Type field to identify those Public Assistance (PA) and/or Medicaid (MA) recipients mandated by the local district to receive uncomplicated medically managed acute detoxification, chemical dependence inpatient rehabilitation or medically supervised inpatient or outpatient withdrawal services as a condition of PA or MA eligibility. The identification, Welfare Reform code 83, appears on the Electronic Medicaid Eligibility System (EMEVS), EPACES and the managed care organization (MCO) enrollment rosters.
