Closing four library buildings seems pretty drastic. Why can’t the Libraries cut more hours and reduce the budget in other areas instead of closing these libraries?
A. For three years now, we have cut around the edges, reducing our budget by $5M in the process. Additional reductions on a scale of $3M or more will not allow us to do that as most of our operational costs are related to staffing facilities. We have no choice but to close and consolidate library facilities at this point.
