Claris Emailer now unable to download email from AOL?
Threads on Apple’s Claris Discussion Board have been reporting a problem where, since Tuesday, Claris Emailer could no longer download email from America Online. Although the problem appears widespread, I continue to successfully get my usual collection of (mostly spam) email from AOL via Emailer. According to Jerry Krinock, AOL initially responded that they do not support third-party software and so would not address this matter. However, as pointed out by Apple, a document on AOL’s web site (Top 20 AOL Member Questions) suggests that they do indeed support Emailer as a valid method for sending and reading email from AOL. Apple further replied: “According to an AOL support staff member, they are aware of an issue with the equipment that handles Claris Emailer to AOL email connections. They were unable to give a timeframe on when this would be corrected.
