Citizens Band (CB) radio is very popular. What is it used for?
Citizens’ Band two-way radio was originally licensed by the government for personal communications. In an area where 70% of the people do not have telephones, CB radios are a common accessory in vehicles. Channel 19 is always in use (to the dismay of truck drivers who use it over the rest of the Nation.) CB is a community party line. Update:2002 Citizens Band is slowly being replaced for many applications by the small frequency modulated (FM) Family Radio Service Radios. They are inexpensive, have a range from 2 to five miles and cheap. They use a shorter wave length than the 49MC Citizen’s band and are not subject to having their signals bounced off the higher levels of the earth’s atmosphere.
