Christians, how would you explain (from the Bible) the difference between prophecy and fortune telling?
First of all, we need to understand what is mean by biblical or God-given prophecy. Bible prophecy is ‘God-breathed’ and is inerrant, perfect and true. Biblical prophecy can be trusted. It foretells the future and explains what the positive or negative results of future events will be. It is usually very specific and is certainly not vague or general in nature. Bible prophecy is unique in that it focuses our attention on God and his eternal plan of salvation through Christ Jesus. Revelation 19:10 describes how the angel speaking to John said “These are the true words of God… Worship God! For… the testimony of Jesus is the spirit (or essence) of prophecy.” This is important. When the early Christians were anointed with the Holy Spirit, they were given spiritual gifts that included the gift of prophecy (1 Corinthians 12:10). The Holy Spirit is also identified as the Spirit of God, the Spirit of Christ and the spirit of truth. A true prophet is one who points to Jesus Christ. A false prop
