CHILD FLOAT JACKETS – Do they do same job as armbands?
Armbands are more of a novelty and false insecurity, I would definitely go with the jacket its safe, floats, and built to work and last. However, with all floatation devices, they need supervision by an adult when being used by a child. Never place all your trust in a device, you need to be there to make sure it is doing what it is supposed to do when it comes to your children. If it makes them feel more comfortable and they can enjoy themselves in the water, go with it.
Armbands actually allow more movement than the jackets, because they can still move about- put their face in, ect. With the jackets they are generally stuck in one place. I would NOT recommend getting just any brand jacket if you do get one, however. A ot of them are not made bottom heavy, which can allow the kids to flip over and be stuck upside down. Speedo makes the best ones, and I have seen them at TJ Maxx for pretty cheap. They are also having a fourth of july sale online now. If you are in the water with the kids, please do not make them wear it. It causes a reliance on them, and makes learning to swim a harder process. They should only be used if you are on the side of the pool watching, but not in with them.
