Child development…what are different ways of obseving a child ?
I’m not sure whether you are looking for different environments, or different areas of development to look at I think its really important to observe a child in a range of different contextx and environments, in order to gain a hoilsitic picture of their abilities and needs. This would be at home, in their education establishment or preschool and in a more formal, demanding setting. Observing them individually, within a quiet environment but also in a larger group to see how they cope with other children. Also observing them within a free play activity, to see if they can move themselves around different activities or get stuck in one place and to observe their natural interests (and possibly preoccupations) I am a speech and language therapist, so I would be looking at their attention and listening, play, interaction and social communication, understanding of language, expressive language, speech sound development, eating and drinking and their fluency.
