Actually, most egg layers do. Lizards, birds, fish… they will lay eggs even when there is no male. When their body is ready to produce eggs, they will seek out a mate, but if none is available, they will still create eggs… Sometimes the eggs are reabsorbed by the body, but usually they are deposited, just as if the animal was going to hatch them.

yes and even fertilised eggs are safe to eat as the refrigeration prohibits the egg from developing. Hens, Ducks, Geese, Quail and even Ostriches eggs are eaten as well as fish eggs (caviar and roe). As far as I know we don’t eat reptile eggs.

They do, but usually only when they are nesting. I think only geese, ducks and chickens lay on a regular basis. Don’t ask me why!
