“Catherine was diagnosed in 1978 with two learning disabilities, auditory processing difficulties with poor visual imagery for written symbols and their sequence and poor auditory memory for recalling spoken sounds in sequences. She also possesses different types and levels of literacy and corresponding abilities. A common thread across all literacy tasks is that each has a purpose-whether that purpose is to pay the telephone bill or to understand a poem. .
