Cast Net – Bait: If I am using a cast net to catch shad for bait, and I also catch small bream or yellow perch, may I then use them for bait?
No. Gamefish, such as bream and yellow perch, may be used as bait on sporting tackle only. However, a cast net is not a legal device to catch gamefish. Any gamefish used as bait must be taken on a hook and line. No gamefish or part may be used on trot lines, set hooks or jugs. Also, be aware of the daily limit on bream or yellow perch, which is 30 per person. The small gamefish you use as bait are considered part of your limit.
