Cash or Travellers Cheques ?
Take some of your money in small denominations of travellers checks and some in small denominations of cash. Keep in mind, however, that Travellers cheques by American Express, Citibank, and Thomas Cook are widely accepted in Santiago, but have very limited use in the smaller towns. Generally speaking, these three companies offer the fastest replacement in case they are stolen. Make sure you keep your receipt for the checks and record of the cheque numbers in a separate place.
