Can’t we cut down on administrative costs and especially the number of highly paid administrators on campus?
We are examining costs across campus, including those in the administration. Although our campus central administrative costs (4.75%) are below those of our Big Ten peers (6.0%), we permanently reduced administrative costs by $1.3 million this year by not replacing certain positions, and we plan to make significant additional reductions over the next two years. As these administrative reductions move forward, we are also taking care not to drive these costs down to units, such as the colleges.
