Can’t I just take a leucine amino acid supplement and get the same result?
• Leucine alone has no stimulatory effect on protein synthesis. Further, addingleucine alone to protein doesn’t produce a beneficial effect, because other branch chainamino acids, valine and isoleucine, fall when there is a disproportionate increase inleucine availability. It is only when leucine, valine and isoleucine are added in theappropriate proportions to the high quality protein that the unique quality of leucine can be attained.
