can i get a washing machine with rubber hoses rather than plastic?
I don’t think the plastic versus rubber hose makes any difference. Many modern washing machines output water so fast that a drain pipe less than 2 inches cannot take it and will overflow. The end of the hose must fit loosely in the drain pipe and must not be spliced to be longer. Do not remove the hose and substitute another that is thinner. Otherwise you can overload internal components of the washing machine. The current standard is for the washing machine drain to have its own trap and the end of the pipe must be at least 18 inches above the trap.
