Can get Incapacity Benefit because of my age and tax contributions?
Yes unfortunately under the rules you will not eligible Other things you may be eligible for are DLA, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit. Check out the following link to find out what you may be eligible for and more infomation how to apply. http://benefitsadviser.direct.gov.uk/ To be eligible for Housing Benefit you must be paying rent but you can make the application when you find a house to rent and most landlords who accept benefit claiments will be prepared to wait until the claim has gone through. Because you are on income support there will be no problem claiming this. Also from the 27th October 2008 you will be able to apply for Employment Support Allowance. Whilst the basic rate for your age group is still £47.95 during the assessment phase this raises to £60.50 for all claimants over 16 once you enter the main phase. You will then enter either a work assessment phase if you are deemed fit to work in certa
Many of us e also in that black hole: I was able toget incapacity beneft due to my illness for a few years while I go mysef better andback into work. Only thing is I think I jumped the gun, I gradually became worse until I had to again, resign as I was not doing my job due to my illnesses. Luckily I was able to work to the end of my contract (2 years) so the employer did not suffer. Having had to lie about my history to them in order to become employed (employers do descriminate, it took me year of applying or jobs to realise this, the day Istopped being hnest and telling people about my history was the day I got mirst job.) I do not get any sickness pay om them. (Not that I would do anyway as my contact ended anyway.) As I had no money to pay for food and electricity, tv licence etc, I tried to go back onto benefits and start again from scratch, getting myself in a position to work again, but was told I was nw toold. The reason I had been able to claim before was because of my age. I
You should write to your MP: I’m an advice worker and while there are many other things about the benefits system that seem wrong to me the fact that people under 25 are penalised for nothing more then BEING under 25 is wrong. If you were 25 or over you’d receive £60.50. Still not enough but better than what you are paid. You will not get similar discounts on rent, council tax, fuel bills, food or anything else because you’re under 25. Bring this to your MP’s attention; s/he works for you and should take up your concerns. Elsewhere, others have suggested you investigate Disability Living Allowance. You’ve nothing to lose and possibly something to gain by doing this. DLA is paid on top of Income Support; even if your were awarded the lowest rate (Approx. £17.00 per week) this would be paid IN ADDITION to the Income Support you now receive and would bring an immediate increase of approx £24 to your Income Support. If you’re not eligible then you’re stuck, I’m sorry to say. Have a look at
