Can CPH just negotiate with the copyright holders of the hymns in the new hymnal so that we can buy an electronic edition and not have to worry about obtaining copyright permission every week?
A. To date, most copyright holders have been reluctant to allow another publisher to grant blanket licenses for their copyrighted works, even when the copyright holder receives a fee. However, as the LCMS moves toward adoption of a new hymnal, CPH continues to seek innovative solutions that will meet the current and future needs of our congregations.
