Can bring myself to rehome my dog just cos im pregnant?
You might not like my answer: when I was pregnant with my third (just a year and a half ago), my dog had just had 9 puppies… We had to bottle-feed them, cause she wouldn’t take care of them… We had to set up a huge dog pen, and feed them, several times a day, clean up after them, let them run around, and—after a while—they became monster dogs, with LOTS of energy! We had trouble finding them homes, cause we were out in the boonies, at the time, so, there I was, in my 2nd, then 3rd trimester, having to pick up these full-size dogs, and put them back in their dog pen, since they liked to try to dig out of the yard… And scoop up all that poop, times 9. (Actually 10, cause we already had a dog.) My hubby helped, but he worked all day, so I did it twice a day, all by myself. We’ve since found homes for most of them, and decided to keep 4 of them, to go along with a dog we already had, and I still get out there and take care of them, while taking care of my toddler, and homeschooli
Ive got a dog, a 2yr old son, a baby due in a week and a husband who works away. My dog doesnt get as much attention as he needs but I couldnt re-home him, my son would be devestated! I try to get outside everyday and throw the ball to him, give him a pat or just simply having him next to me when I peg out the washing. Ive got a cat also and he is really good friends with the dog so that helps keep the dog company. You can do it! The dog might just have to put up with a bit less attention for a bit but im sure everyone will be happier in the long term if you keep your dog.
I’ve got a 14 month old, and I personally don’t know what I would do without our extremely energetic dog! He entertains my son, he cleans up the floor after a meal — he’s a lifesaver! Some days are hard because he’s needy for a attention also, but the good days by far out-weight the tedious days with our dog. You can manage!!!
