Can animals simply make their own cetyl myristoleate from other foods?
Unfortunately, they cannot. For dogs and horses, cetyl myristoleate must come from an outside source and is beneficial to joint health and recovery because of its unique molecular structure. Subjecting it to heat or pressure, such as occurs in the manufacturing process with pelleted and extruded products, can have a degrading effect – and can lower its beneficial properties for joint tissues. That’s why we DO NOT pellet either Advanced Cetyl M® Joint Action Formula for Horses or Advanced Cethly M® Joint Action Formula for Dogs.
