Cancun Mayors Drug Arrest: Is the Mexican Riviera Still Safe for Tourists?

That still may be true, but it’s still disturbing that the mayor of Cancun was arrested last week on drug charges — at the same time the former governor of Quintana Roo state was being extradited to the U.S., also on drug charges. Cancun Mayor Gregario Sanchez said he was set up, and “Cancun is, has been and always will be a safe place for tourists,” says Victor Manuel Loeza Escalante, president of the Cancun Chamber of Commerce,
