I agree with all the answers so far… I work in a vacuum repair/sales store and the answer is YES you can wash MOST filters as others have stated. You MUST make sure it is dry. First, a wet filter will not work well as the ‘pores’ are swollen closed. Secondly, and far worse, the moisture will get in the motor causing it to fail. I recommend customers to only wash the filter 3 times max since they never get completely clean and by the 3rd washing are more clogged than clean. This decreases the suction & puts stress on the motor. Hope this helps.
