Yes, shuttle patterns can be used by needle tatters. Simple ring & chain patterns are easy to adapt. More complex techniques (rings thrown off chains, split rings, two colour tatting) may require a bit of fiddling to get to work. A very good web page by Georgia Seitz with some tips for adapting shuttle patterns to needle tatting is http://www.georgiaseitz.com/dana/needlet… The first couple sections describe needle tatting, but if you scroll down to Part 3 (about 2/3 of the way down the page) she gives some suggestions for how to adapt techniques. If you are interested in learning how to shuttle tat, there are some very good web sites around. I know can be difficult to figure out without help, so I do recommend trying to find a local tatter (sometimes they appear at craft shows) or tatting group. Depending on where you are in the world, I can point you at some starting points if you get in touch.
