Can you use a roller to paint a varathane finish?
I use foam rollers all the time for the initial appliction of oil based top coats. The problem is it typically introduces a lot of bubbles into the medium. It means having to go over everything with a brush to knock down the tiny bubbles. If you don’t you’ll have a million tiny bubbles on your top coat. Sure you can use a brush for the whole thing but I find the roller with brush afterword method works well to get an even application of the medium being applied. I found that it saves me a ton of time when doing long boards, etc. I wouldn’t recommend using a regular roller for a top coat. You’ll likely get a lot of ‘fuzz’ from the roller in your top coat. If you are dead set on using a regular roller make sure you vacuum the roller and/or wash the roller in mineral spirits before using it to clean off as much fuzz as possible. Dry the roller if you rinse it in mineral spirits….if water based use water to rinse it. You should put on at least 3 coats. 4 would be better (depending upon i
