Can you use a hand held belt sander to refinish a hardwood floor?

You will be able to achieve a much better finish if you use a drum sander. If you are going to go through all the trouble of refinishing the floor you might as well do it right. I did my entire tiny house ( a month), and one small room took several days, it was about 60 year old oak,and was a lot more work then I expected even with the floor sander. Its going to take forever and you’re going to make a mess with just a handheld belt sander. You need the weight and pressure of the heavy machine to do it properly. Also the size/width of the drum sander is necessary for evenly sanding out the floorboards. My suggestion, if you’re not going to do it right, don’t do it.
