Can you tell us a little bit about how you began making music, how yelworC got started, and what the musical environment was like at the time from your perspective?
What have some of your influences been throughout the years? Devin: The influences in the early days were Cabaret Voltaire, Chrome, Skinny Puppy, Laibach, Test Dept., Coil, and Christian Death. The style of these bands is still my favorite style and influence. New musical influences for me come mostly from film scores and sometimes classical music. In earlier times, I was a fan of John Carpenter’s minimalistic film music. Now I’ve notice also the musical work of Graeme Revell, Paul Haslinger, Lustmord and others. I started making music in the late 1980s. The equipment was the legendary Korg MS-20, a cheap keyboard with 10-second sampling time, two simple tape recorders, and last but not least, an electric guitar. Today, one can afford the technical equipment so much easier that not many can imagine how expensive the hardware was in earlier times.
