I can only answer #2: The Metro is the best way around Paris, that is unless you are willing to pay for a taxi, or are planning to stay out way late. If you are only staying in Paris for a short amount of time, you can just buy a couple of metro passes, they’re about 1.30 Euros or so, but you can travel on that one ticket as much as you want for an hour. For a weekend, you probably only need 5-10 tickets. If you are planning on traveling A LOT, look into the Carte Orange, you can get it for a week’s worth of traveling. That way you keep the same ticket for the entire week. It’s helpful if the ticket booths are closed and there is no electronic machine. Make sure you bring a passport-sized photo for the Carte Orange. Also, the tickets are split up into zones, and the more zones you “buy” on your ticket, the farther you can go out from the city center.
