Can you tell me, in sixteen songs, a brief history of pop music?
Rock Around the Clock – Bill Haley Hound Dog – Elvis Presley Movin’ – Cliff Richard A Hard Days Night – The Beatles A Day in the Life – The Beatles Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars – David Bowie Bohemian Rhapsody – Queen God Save the Queen – Sex Pistols Going Underground – The Jam Thriller – Michael Jackson Pride – U2 Smells Like Teen Spirit – Nirvana Unfinished Sympathy – Massive Attack Wonderwall – Oasis Moving – Supergrass Maybe Tomorrow – Stereophonics Tails off a bit at the end I know but there were too many iconic songs in the 70’s and 80’s to fit them all in! Should be more Weller too!
starting when… and I could do it in less if you meant last 50 years…but it would be my opinion of the pionneers of tha stayle take rock music Rag Time Medley by Vess Ossman (rag time music) any thing with James Price Johnson (stride piano player, birth of jazz ) any thing with Benny Goodman or Glenn Miller (swing) then look at dizzie gillespie or bud powell (Bebop) next you looking at the beatles, and led zeplin (rock and roll) then you need to branch out first branch is black sabath (heavy Rock) and the second brach is the stooges( for me the birth of punk) heavy metal went on to band like bon jovi punk moved on with black flag and circle jerks both were killed by grunge (nirvana, stone temple pilots) then we saw a rebirth of the old styles mixed with new bands like clutch with jazz drummers Kyuss reinventing the black sabbath sound nu metal..which to all intent and perpose is rock mixed with punk but as popular music go this style was being killed of slowly by the like of the car
