Can you tell if someone is White Collar or Blue Collar by observing them?
I think each sub-culture has it’s own clues, and white collar / blue collar isn’t the same from region to region. Many studies have found that the more education people have, the less likely they smoke (generally, not individual by individual, so I don’t want to hear about the one exception someone knows). Smoking is a huge factor in looking older than someone’s years, having rougher skin, being overweight, etc. It’s a self-care issue that is related to the shared habits of a social group. Certainly speech habits and even the way people carry themselves can be a tip off to their background (more than their jobs). Workplaces have a “culture” and blue collar jobs tend more to be skilled trades, which have a history of male-only workers, apprenticeship training vs. university, so a small group of people transmitting not just their skills, but also values and behaviors, so if someone stays in the group, they adapt.
