Can you talk us through a typical month working for the mag?
Well, firstly we compile a release schedule. We will ring all the record companies up so we’ve got an idea of who’s releasing it. Then we’ll sit down and have meeting about who we’d like to put in the magazine. Everybody’s say is important. Even though I make the final decision, I’m not across every single genre of music. I don’t really know who’s going to be massive in the rock world, because that’s not really where my interest lies. It’s my job to know about that, but that comes from fantastic staff and going down to TOTP. So, we’ll listen to music all the time, have these discussions of who’s around and who we should be putting into the magazine. Then we’ll do a flat plan. It’s basically a sheet of A4 paper with the magazine mapped out in one confined space. We’ll sit down and all have a brainstorm to see how our readers would like to see their popstars, and what would they like to know about them.
