Can you substitute Baking Powder for Baking Soda, Whats the difference between the two?

Baking powder contains both an acid and a base, when they are mixed with a liquid (in a recipe) they combine and react. Baking Soda is only a base, so if you use it you have to add an acid to your recipe. 1T vinegar per 1t baking soda works for me.
