Can you recommend classroom resources which support teaching younger children about the Asian tsunami?
Oxfam: There are lots of resources on our Cool Planet website and in our new Catalogue for Schools. It is true that there are more resources on disasters for secondary schools. However, it is important not to dismiss these out of hand for use with younger children as they provide useful perspectives and background knowledge for teachers. Furthermore, many of the activities are basic tools which can be easily adapted for use with children of all ages. Ultimately, the best resource is a teacher who knows their pupils and can effectively use information from a wide range of sources, including the media, in the classroom. Our school is interested in personalising our fundraising efforts and we’d particularly like to see progress reports of the schools who benefit. Is this possible? Oxfam: The Oxfam website will provide updates and case studies on how the affected communities are rebuilding their lives. However, these will not necessarily focus on individual schools.
