Can you recommend a book on history of Cuba in 20th Century?
Perhaps one of the more famous works on this is Che Guevara’s Reminiscences of the Cuban Revolutionary War. A great first hand account of Castro coming to power. If your husband is really into Cuban history, this is a must read. Also, My Life, by Fidel Castro gives a fascinating insight into the dictator’s mind. Obviously, like Guevara’s book are slanted to view the Cuban Revolution in a particular way, but you can’t read up on Cuban history without either of these books. But, if you had to buy only one book for your husband, buy Cuba: A New History by Richard Gott. This book is the seminal work on Cuban history. It doesn’t just concentrate on the twentieth century, but that is a good thing, as you really need to know what came before to understand what happens later. Besides, plenty of interesting things happened in Cuba before the c.20th! Great book and it sure helped me out a lot at uni!
