Can you really polish metal with a mixture of chalk and water?

Well depending on the metal maybe you can if a metal needs to be polished it’s probably because it has form it’s oxide which makes it look tarnished. Chalk water would form a cloud of CaCO3(component of chalk) because chalk isn’t too soluble in water but soluble enough perhaps the theoretical reaction would be MO(metal oxide) + CaCO3 —-> MCO3 + CaO This reaction might or might not work you’d have to just try it on a rusted nail or another piece of tarnished metal that isn’t too much of value and you might not need. Definitely don’t try it on jewelry or your car.
