Hah, I’m doing this exact course in N.Ireland. As for level of detail. Im working on an assignment right now. The more detail the better. Just tell him to do it to the best of his ability. As a general guide – Pass Criteria = rewording what you have already been taught to show your understanding. Merit = add more detail and use examples. Distinction = apply it to an example with good explanation and detail. National Diploma courses are equal to 3 A Levels so the detail should be a good step up from GCSE. Also, usually the first hand in date for assignments will allow for teacher feedback so make sure he gets them in on time. The teacher will tell him where he is going wrong.
