Can you partition the PS3 hard drive and load windows xp?
As has been mentioned, you would need to install Linux onto a partition first. PSUbuntu is very good, but there is also Yellow Dog Linux, OpenSUSE and a couple of others available for the PS3. I have not tried it personally (I haven’t had the need) but it has been demonstrated that with a Virtual Machine running inside Linux you can install and run Windows XP. You would need something like VMware or Virtual Box which basically emulates an entire PC in software (often referred to as a ‘sandbox’ environment). It emulates a standard PC onto which you can install and run anything you like. There are limitations which you may run into – the biggest of which could be the available memory for your virtual machine. Even if you did get it running I expect it would be pretty slow and limited resources would probably mean you couldn’t run much. It would be a nice thing to try though.
